General Introduction and need for counselling

It is a vital need.

Mental health is more than a talking point.

This is especially true of the times we live in. The COVID years have brought with them uncertainty and turmoil. The loss of loved ones, a lingering sense of uncertainty, livelihood and jobs at risk, health concerns- the list is more or less the same for everyone.

There is a greater requirement for empathy and 🙈, today. This is, sometimes, easier said than done.

Seeking help for one’s mental health or to heal yourself, to face another day with hope and focus, needs support.

Maenmai- Tamil, attainment of a higher level- is a professional counselling service. It practises talk therapy or psychotherapy to help individuals work through mental and emotional difficulties.

A trained psychologist acts as your counsellor and listens to you in a completely confidential setting.

Through regular sessions and conversations, the therapist helps the individual understand the subtle nuances of the issue and helps them develop coping mechanisms.

This will ultimately help them to manage their mental and emotional wellbeing, thereby helping them improve their quality of life.

Psychological counselling is useful to mitigate feelings of loneliness and isolation. It can prove beneficial to handle situations like loss of jobs, major moves, relationships, and upheavals.

Maenmai’s mental healthcare management is accessible, affordable, and discreet.

The wellbeing of the client is at the heart of all of our endeavours.

Providing mental health care by putting the client first is vital to better understanding.

There is comfort in privacy – something Maenmai ensures at every turn.

Advantages

For the Indian diaspora, speaking to a counsellor who speaks their language, literally and figuratively, can be extremely reassuring.

There is an innate understanding of culture, values, thought process and language, all of which make for a smoother and more productive session. Our counsellors are well-qualified and experienced professionals with many years of experience, having handled numerous clients.

Since Maenmai is also offered as a tele-service, you can choose your time and avail of counselling and support. All this from the comfort of your home or workplace, giving you unprecedented privacy and confidentiality.

Breaking the barriers
between you and counselling

Traditional Counselling Practices The Maenmai Method
Apprehension at the doctor’s. No ‘visit,’ so no worry.
A sense of alienation and distance; the people who need it the most receive help the least. Get to know individual therapists from their profiles. Talk to your top choice, free of cost.
Lingering worry, despite fantastic doctors and quality care. Offers you the easiest and most confidential way to find safe spaces.
The anxiety of the unknown, the inconvenience of a new place, a potential lengthy wait time, and unfamiliar interactions. The online mode eliminates all these concerns- you can choose from a voice-only service, video-off, or a phone call.
The unpredictability of the end results and costs can also be a cause for concern. Complete transparency about every aspect, including costs and choice of frequency of sessions. The time and money you can invest in your mental well-being is always in your hands.

Levels of Service

Our decades of experience in counselling and psychotherapy with thousands of clients have helped us redefine the level of help people need. Maenmai uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). CBT is a practical approach. It is simple, structured, and outcome-based; you are always clear about what is happening in therapy. CBT gives clients a better grip on their goals, directions, and methods. It aids them in making themselves better individuals by changing not just their behaviour or attitudes but also their underlying thoughts and feelings.

The LGBTQA+ community in India has dealt with incredibly painful persecution and trauma. Maenmai offers them a safe platform to discuss their issues with professionals who are trained in WPATH guidelines (Link:

Sometimes, the mental health care gap (mhGap) seems massive.
Can this gap be bridged?
Yes, it can. Maenmai shows the way.

Those who cannot reach counselling due to location, family, and social stigma can contact us with any internet-enabled device.

Children and youngsters from Tier- II and III cities of India can now get the help they need to cultivate healthier minds.

Maenmai is especially keen to be of service to members of the Indian diaspora, scattered all over the world. While the countries they reside in have qualified counsellors, cultural and language barriers often exist, making therapy challenging. Differences in values, attitudes, and belief systems can sometimes prove impossible to surmount.

Our Therapists

Maenmai prides itself on the amazing people who make it a great counselling service. All our counsellors and therapists have been with us for years. They are all people who put kindness first. Our therapists are qualified at a post-graduate level and have undergone hundreds of hours of supervised sessions with clients. This team is diverse in age, outlook, approach, and techniques but is one when it comes to professionalism and commitment to work. Every one of our counsellors has gone through regular lectures, observation, training workshops, and hands-on interactions and continues with weekly meetings to improve their professional impact.
