Eyalbagam

In-patient service and emergency care

Sudden change in the behaviour of a close one leaves us puzzled, helpless, and even afraid. Not knowing what to do in a mental health crisis, such as suicidal behaviour, extreme emotional outbursts, self-harm, agitation, and aggression, is more common  than you can imagine.
Some mental health conditions, such as substance (alcohol/drug) abuse, severe depression, extreme anxiety, or stress, often lead to behaviour that cannot be managed at home.
Eyalbagam cares for persons with acute disturbed behaviour. It heals them with concern and science, protecting their human dignity and rights till they return to their natural self.
The aim of acute mental health care is to prevent stigma towards the affected, minimise work days lost to the condition, and reduce the burden on the family. Satisfactory improvement in a short duration of stay is one of the benchmarks we measure ourselves against.

Licensed by the State Mental Health Authority (SMHA) and the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Eyalbagam stands tall in its distinctive service. It is a one-of-a-kind service within a 100 square kilometre radius. Staffed with caring nurses, able psychologists, and efficient psychiatrists, no behavioural issue is too difficult to be handled in Eyalbagam.

Eyalbagam remains the last resort for families grappling with a person with severe mental illness who have to get better in a short time.
The centre provides door-to-door service in special cases when recommended by the treating psychiatrist.
We handle addiction and substance abuse issues with a pragmatic approach. This differentiates us from the traditional deaddiction programmes. We do a one-week detoxification and Brief Interventions training programme, informed by ASSIST (WHO). At the end of the week, the client has crossed the withdrawal state and is better positioned to face the world with their newly learned, simple, and highly effective skills.

Situations that
need in-patient care:

Admissions

Admissions

Duration of admission:  Eyalbagam prides itself on an average duration of five days. Our admissions range from two days to two weeks. The functional and symptomatic recovery of the client determines the duration of stay.

Daycare: Eyalbagam enables the daycare of clients for short periods. This works especially well in families where caregivers have jobs.
Daycare also enables a smoother transition from inpatient to outpatient. It involves sessions with psychologists, doctor visits, and occupational and yoga therapy.

Admission Procedure: Only clients assessed by our psychiatrists at least once as outpatients or in Emergency can be admitted in Eyalbagam.
Other psychiatrists can admit in Eyalbagam, too, provided they have discussed the care plan with our team in advance.

Emergency Admissions:  Emergency admissions through the Manathin Maiyam outpatient department or directly at Eyalbagam is possible. New clients can be taken for emergency admissions at Eyalbagam after consultation by the family with the psychiatrists.

Documents required for admission: Proper identification and proof of address are required at the time of admission for the patient and the Nominated Representative or the primary caregiver.

Discharge: Duration of treatment and date of discharge are decided by the treating psychiatrist. There may be a situation where a patient admitted as Independent Admission or families of such patients want to leave prior to the recommended date. In that case, they may sign appropriate documents and leave after settling bills.
